What is this diagnosis?
I never thought that this would be,
Is this really happening to me?
Fear and denial take over my mind,
What will I become over time?
My heart feels as if it’s been broken in two,
I’m constantly imagining what I will go through.
My body is ailing, yet my spirit is healed,
The calling on my life has been revealed.
I know not what tomorrow may bring,
Today I am grateful for the little things.
I awaken and give thanks for each day,
I never forget to take the time to pray.
I realize my life is sacred and blessed,
No matter the task, I will withstand the test.
I will hold my head up high and remember that I am favored,
Showing love and kindness to all, my life I will savor.”

And just like that our 3rd annual Mackay MS Scavenger Hunt is over! It’s taken me quite awhile to wind down from all the chaos of a busy couple of months, however I have finally come around to hitting the publish button!
The Mackay MS Scavenger Hunt was originated by the inspiration of my mother upon confirmation of the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in early 2013. Those of who are living with MS are aware of its existence every day. They live it and so do their family and friends. However until it has affected somebody you know and love; then the sad truth is, you probably haven’t even heard of it.
I believe it is important to share our story; my mums story, not for sympathy but to inspire and relate to those who share similar struggles. Our aim was to bring together the community in awareness for this chronic disease, draw attention to the warning signs and symptoms while appealing for funds that will continue to lead to better medications, quality-of-life improvements, and ultimately a cure.
With that in mind came months and months of planning, lots of late nights and “pulling out hair” moments, to pull off another successful year of The Mackay MS Scavenger Hunt. Every hair that was lost in the process was completely worth it to see tears of laugher, enormous smiles and individuals saying “Can’t wait for the next one!”
If you are reading this and is wondering what exactly is involved in this so-called “Scavenger Hunt”, well I’m about to tell you. I’m sure most of you would have seen the Amazing Race? Well our MS Scavenger Hunt is quite similar. Teams in a single vehicle were required to decipher our clues given on the day that lead to places around Mackay.
To our Mackay locals, see if you can solve this one! Leave me a comment if you can crack it!
You can find me in the middle of a lake, I’m not fishing, have no boat, but I’m getting help from above, where am I?
Once teams have reached the location points there was an activity to complete which granted teams a special token. We had a 3 legged race, a footy kicking challenge and performing your own rap to name a few. Then become the race to the finish line to be crowned the winners!
There are a million people we would like to thank that made this year possible, so take a seat, heat up some popcorn and buckle in!
I want to take the first opportunity to thank all of our special donators. There were many “Am I dreaming?” moments as we were amazed with how generous local businesses were with helping out a hand. A little goes along way couldn’t be any more accurate as we were able to award our winners with over $3500 worth of prizes! So a massive THANK-YOU to Forever Lashes Studio Mackay, HM Makeup & Brows, Lussu & Co, Chemist Warehouse North Mackay, Miami Hair, Adrenalin Paintball, Femnasium Health and Fitness for Women, GoWake Cable Park Mackay, Thommo Tyres, Subway Nebo Road, Northen Beaches & Paget Stores, Shepherd and Dudley Chartered Accountants, Sorbello’s Restaurant, Bushman’s Bakery, DIY Party Supplies, Ma’s Pizza, Annes Natural Therapies, Crystal Cauldron, Rhonda Gunston Readings, Dannielle Saxby – Tupperware Consultant, Mass Nutrition, Integrative Pain & Health Solutions, City Fitness, The Cutting Room, Blessed Hair Lounge, Pro Paddle, TFD Mackay Tyres & Mechanical and Marlene’s Beauty Inside and Out.

Thank-you to Fiesta Rentals for donating the hire of chairs, PA system and the bbq for our amazing sausage sizzle. To have the support from you guys made such a huge difference in the total profit on the day, so thank-you!
Our Official After Party was also introduced this year. To sit back, relax and down a few celebratory drinks was just what the doctor ordered after such an eventful day. With the crazy talented trio LoOT playing covers and their original songs, while $2 from every drink was being donated by Metro Mackay; what more could you want?!
Lot’s of tears of joy came from our big cash donators. We have absolutely no words to express how grateful we are. Thank-you Graeme Meredith, Realtime Group Ltd, Thommo Tyres, Heaven Sent Nanny Service, Northern Beaches Dental and Casel Enterprises.
